If you decided to come to Holland I think it's better if you understand how to move inside the city here. Holland is a country where the only way to move perfectly everywhere is biking. Forget about your car, it's too expensive to park in the city center (sometimes 5 euro per hour) moreover by bike is faster than my car. Not even walking is so easy, somewhere there are only bike paths and not sidewalk!!!!
So I thought why don't use the bike to go at my office and avoid the stressing traffic on the highway?
It's done : 35 km from my home in Leiden to my office Rotterdam, every day, same route following the water on a nice and cozy bike path.
The enviroment should say thanks to me ;)
